FIT SKIN

The body’s skin is our biggest organ – and while we put a lot of thought and effort into feeding the rest of our anatomy with the right stuff – we often forget to take note of what we place directly into our skin. The good news is, it is never too late to start.

It’s more than turning back the clock or concealing flaws; many organic and low-chemical skin care options are packed with nutrition that goes beyond skin deep. Here’s three ranges that we’re currently loving for their ability to nourish and generate beautiful healthy skin…

NIU SKINCARE: A complete health, beauty and wellbeing regime

Organic coconut supplement nutrition

organic lip balm

Niulife moisturiser organic

Coconuts have been used in the tropics for thousands of years for cooking, nutritional supplements and skin care. Made from 100% organic extra virgin coconut oil, the NiuLife range is free from any synthetic chemicals, sulphates or phosphates.

Niu’s moisturiser is a great after-sun/post-run treatment, with research indicating that it can help improve skin conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.

NiuLife coconut oil isn’t just great for your body; it also contributes to creating a better life for our Pacific Island neighbours in the Solomon Islands.

KORA ORGANICS: the (role) model for healthy skin

Ok so Miranda Kerr is blessed with naturally beautiful skin, but there’s no doubt that her commitment to healthy living – which includes her KORA Organics Skincare range, yoga and super-clean diet – has a lot to do with her maintaining it. KORA’s products are infused with antioxidant rich noni, essential fatty acids, herbal extracts, essential oils and vitamin A, C and E.

We love KORA’s Balancing Rose Mist post-workout for nourished, re-hydrated skin; organically grown rose, noni, aloe and hibiscus provide an antioxidant boost that helps support the skin’s collagen production.

JANE IREDALE: looks great, feels amazing, performs miracles.

Powder Me SPF UVB 30 sunscreen

Jane Iredale is virtually the saint of skincare for women who love their makeup, without  harmful chemicals, gluten or animal products. Her non comedogenic mineral products prove that – with thorough scientific research and rigorous testing – it is possible to create flawless cosmetics that make skin feel as good as it looks.

Australians are more prone to skin cancer than any other nation; ironically, our healthy, outdoor lifestyle often leads to seriously sun damaged skin. Jane Iredale’s Sun Screen range protects against UVA and UVB rays, and is formulated with chemical-free sunscreen actives to provide true broad spectrum sun protection that’s water resistant for up to 40 minutes (the Powder Me sunscreen is ideal for preventing scalp burn). A bodyguard for your dermis, Jane Iredale’s products allow the skin to breathe, while trapping environmental pollutants and helping to prevent and reverse the signs of aging. They even have a great range for guys!

COMING SOON: ABI AND JOSEPH

Pret-A-Sporter is proud to announce the next major brand to be joining the PAS revolution; the luxurious, alluring sportswear label, Abi and Joseph.

ABSOLUTELY ABI

Company director and former Pilates isntructer, Abi White, was seeking activewear with a difference when she decided to launch her own label in 2006. With the help of a clever patternmaker, Marianne Backhouse, Abi and Joseph was born (the ‘Joseph’ pays homage to Joseph Pilates, the creator of Pilates). Several years on, and the company is flourishing online, sold and stocked the world over. Now, Pret-A-Sporter celebrates the arrival of Abi and Joseph on Pret-A-Sporter.com in June, 2012.

Australian owned and Australian made, Abi’s designs are crafted using the highest quality materials sourced from across the globe. The fabrics feature four-way stretch for optimum movement, moisture management, and are anti-bacterial, and abrasion and odour resistant (whew!). The fabrics also ease muscle movement; perfect for the pilates enthusiast, casual yoga class attendee or cosy couch athlete looking for comfortable, stylish leisurewear.

We can’t wait.

THE REVOLUTION IS COMING.

JUNE 2012.

ONTHEGO WITH MICK

sports wear apparel Mick Spencer

There’s something inspiring about someone coming up with an amazing idea, applying their love of sport and fitness… and adding a bit of unchartered waters into the mix to create a successful home-grown business. It’s even more inspiring when the person behind the success is a teenage uni student. Mick Spencer is the Director and Founder of OnTheGo, a fitness merchandise company that has taken the industry by storm over the past two years with an energetic, high-vibe approach to active wear and corporate branding. We get the goss from Mick on how he came to create OnTheGo, what he has planned for the brand and his secrets to keeping fit amongst his crazy, busy lifestyle!

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND THE BRAND’S CREATION?

After school I took a gap year; my intention was to find my true self before I took a start in any career. I flew off to Hawaii and volunteered in a program that taught surfing, kayaking, mountain biking and other adventurous sports. It was here that I realised I wanted to do something different with my life.

So I came back home to Australia and started a full time university degree in Sports Science. Four weeks into the first semester, OnTheGo (OTG) was birthed.

Originally, I had the idea to start OTG as a takeaway coffee cup advertising business. The initial concept: that businesses could advertise themselves within cafes through these take away cups. But it must be noted that ‘OnTheGo’ is how I live my life: always doing a hundred things, always moving – always OnTheGo. And so I formed the foundations of OTG Advertising.

OTG Advertising soon shifted into a print and marketing revenue for other businesses – everything that I made I would smack an OnTheGo logo on, and it was a product of mine! It wasn’t until I hit merchandise that I found our niche market and I thought, ‘OnTheGo’ could be the actual brand; the rest is history.

TELL US ABOUT ONTHEGO’S OWN CLOTHING LINE:

The OTG clothing and accessories line is fun, vivacious and full of energy! We build out products with an emphasis on being young, fun, energetic, but most importantly we emphasise a love for life. The retail line is full of a range of lightweight, durable items all at a very reasonable price.
We want our products energizing people and making them live the life they love, and loving the life they live.

YOUR FAVOURITE OUTFIT FROM ONTHEGO’S CURRENT RANGE:

My favourite outfit from our current range would have to be the ‘OTG Summer Fresh Cycling Kit’ (below). This kit is fit out with our brand and encompasses my favourite colours – OTG Lime Green, Grey and White. I’ll often wear this outfit with an ‘OTG Classic Trucker Cap’ and an ‘OTG Classic Icon Hoody’.

YOUR FAVOURITE WORKOUT:

This changes as my life changes! Currently, I love nothing more than a big mountain bike ride on a single-track that’s no more than 200 metres from my front door. I also recently purchased my own Stand Up Paddle Board, which I have been taking out on the water almost every morning. I spend so much of the day around people and technology that I love getting out and dirty just to keep my head sane.

WHAT’S THEY KEY TO YOUR HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?

My amazing parents have given me the greatest piece of advice I could give to others: ‘create a lifestyle that has balance’. I was lucky in the fact that I grew up with poor eyesight and a heart condition, as this lead me to never take life for granted. I have learnt that no matter how busy you are, it is important to take time to eat well, exercise often and socialise when possible. I think if you have a solid balance in all areas of your life, you can’t help but achieve.

IF YOU HAD YOUR OWN PERSONAL T-SHIRT SLOGAN, IT WOULD SAY:

This is a funny question because we recently came out with a line labelled: ‘Feel Good!’. It was a line I developed purely because I wanted our products to be inspiring and to touch people’s lives. The simple words ‘Feel Good!’ on a tee, singlet, or a drink bottle can change someone’s day. So, to answer your question, my slogan would say: ‘Feel Good!’.
